Living the dream

Sunday night I took a deep breath when I realized that I had 7 rehearsals with three different scripts, a class and a workshop this week. And, you know, the day job.

Last night I was in my fourth commitment of the day at the oh so late hour of 10 PM, rehearsing P.C. by Bara Swain for the annual series Artistic New Directions produces. There is a beat in the play when the two male characters (played by Tony Neil and Doug Rossi) sort of arm wrestle standing-up. Bara, who is also directing says to me, “I’m going to stand on Tony’s foot, quick you get Doug’s.” Eager to please, I rushed over to lean on Doug’s foot. The scene of the four of us must have been funny, but in that moment I realized that these are the times I will always remember--running around New York from one rehearsal to another, living off of granola bars and caffeine, having the time of my life.

And it struck me at just how fortunate I am to be able to do what I love, though never perfectly, and to be in the company of so many talented, generous and creative people.

Now, how does this work? Am I supposed to hashtag blessed? #IMNOTDOINGTHAT
