Last minute, I got a text from my friend James Wilcox, inviting me to a Q&A with Jessica Chastain, that SAG was hosting. Um, yes please, thankyouverymuch, I'd be delighted. And I'm so glad that I did. She's lovely, and refreshingly candid. She didn't sugarcoat the early years she spent jobless in L.A., going to donation-only yoga classes and calling it her movement class, or going to the library to adapt Hamlet which one day she intended to direct or when she hosted play readings in her liviing room with her friends to keep her from being depressed.
Her advice: Do something every day that reminds you that you're an actor. If you work when no one is watching, you'll be ready when they are.
Right to the heart.
